THE WALK TO EMMAUS
The Walk to Emmaus is a 72-hour spiritual renewal weekend and has been attended by more than (100) people at Village Chapel.
The name “Walk to Emmaus” comes from Luke 24:13-35, where Christ appeared to the two disciples walking along the road to Emmaus. As they walked He explained scriptures concerning Himself and then later when they broke bread together, He opened their eyes and they recognized Him as Jesus, the Risen Lord.
The Walk to Emmaus offers today’s disciples the opportunity to rediscover Christ’s presence in their lives and to gain a fresh understanding of God’s transforming Grace.
The Walk to Emmaus, although it is a gathering of many, is a personal experience. It has changed people’s lives, it has invigorated churches, with many beginning to actively participate in the ministries of their congregation. Each one responds in his/her own way, as God wills.
- During the weekend there are 15 talks given by both lay and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church in the world today.
- The weekend is filled with prayer, meditation, worship, singing and fun, and daily communion.
- At the conclusion of the weekend, participants are encouraged to be a part of a small weekly group that meets to encourage each other and to hold each other accountable in their Christian Walk.
- There is also a monthly gathering of our whole Emmaus community that is open to all, whether you have attended Emmaus or not.
- Our Community Gatherings are held at Reynoldsburg UMC at 7:15 pm, the first Tuesday of the month.
- If you would like to read more about The Walk to Emmaus, go to upperroom.org/Emmaus . If you want more information about Emmaus you can ask anyone at Village Chapel who has attended and they will be willing to talk to you about it and help you decide if Emmaus is for you.
- Everyone who attends a weekend needs a sponsor and that same person would be happy to sponsor you, or help you find one. You can find registrations for Emmaus at the Welcome Center in the Narthex here at Village Chapel.
For those young persons, ages 15 -18 (and completed 9th grade), CHRYSALIS is for you. In your 3-day weekend you will go from a caterpillar to a butterfly through the Chrysalis process. You can read more at upperroom.org/chrysalis.
Older youth, ages 19-24 (and graduated from high school), have a choice of either Chrysalis or the Walk to Emmaus. We can help you decide.
